As lockdown restrictions start to lift gradually in Wales, we, the members of the Wales Funder’s Forum, would like to reassure voluntary organisations and social enterprises in Wales that work to look at how we support Welsh organisations through the next phase of the pandemic; the “recovery” phase, has already commenced.

Funds to support the sector

As part of our response to the coronavirus crisis, we have created a new ‘coronavirus’ funding category to bring together funds that are directly supporting the sector in this time of need. The Volant Trust

The Volant Trust accepts applications from charities in the UK and internationally that demonstrate a strong focus on alleviating social deprivation and helping vulnerable groups who have been particularly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Applications for medical equipment and the production or distribution of PPE will also be considered.

Postcode Neighbourhood Trust

Due to the current pandemic, the Postcode Neighbourhood Trust will provide funding in Great Britain to organisations affected by the COVID-19 pandemic under the following themes: supporting your organisation’s resilience & adapting/expanding services to meet new challenges.

Lloyds Bank Foundation – COVID Recovery Fund

This will offer around 140 charities a two-year unrestricted grant of £50,000 alongside a Development Partner to help charities navigate a tumultuous future.

This fund is open to small and medium sized charities with an income of between £25,000 and £1 million a year that are helping people overcome complex social issues such as dependency, homelessness and domestic abuse.

Community Justice Fund

Funding of between £25,000 – £75,000 is available to help specialist social welfare legal advice organisations be effective and sustainable in the face of responding to COVID-19.

They are not currently accepting applications but envisage further information to be published in February 2021.

MSD’s UK COVID-19 Grants Programme

Up to £20,000 of funding is available to support health charities to continue projects, or, to support the creation of new projects which are now needed.

Ofcom Community Radio Fund

For 2020-21, grants will be provided as emergency cash funding to support stations facing severe financial difficulty due to the coronavirus (“Covid-19”) outbreak.

Umbrella Cymru – LGBTQ+ Covid-19 Fund

LGBTQ+ organisations and groups across the UK can apply for grants of up to £15,000 to support their vital role in supporting LGBTQ+ communities through the coronavirus pandemic and beyond.

METRO Charity in partnership with Umbrella Cymru in Wales will be cascading the fund from Comic Relief, with money raised from ‘The Big Night In’.

Organisations and groups with income under £100,000 will be able to apply for over 100 grants ranging from £500 to £15,000.

Sport Wales – Be Active Wales Fund

Grants of £300-£50,000 are available for sports clubs and community organisations or groups in direct response to Covid-19.

The Be Active Wales Fund has two main purposes – Protect and Prepare.

Violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence (VAWDASV) 2020 -21 Capital Application

The VAWDASV Capital Grant supports capital projects relating to violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence.

Resilience and Recovery Loan Fund

The Resilience and Recovery Loan Fund, offered by Social Investment Business (SIB), has been expanded and improved to make more loans to charities and social enterprises affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

This Fund is only for UK charities and social enterprises which fulfil the eligibility criteria of both the Fund and CBILS – the full list of eligibility criteria can be found on the SIB website. The fund closes to new applications at 11.59pm on Wednesday 31 March 2021. Covid-19 Support Fund

Funding will be made available to provide immediate relief to charities affected by Covid-19, as well as a longer-term programme of support for people, communities, and issues where there is the greatest need, including:

The Edward Gostling Foundation

Up to £10,000 is available to eligible charities with less than 6 months’ of free reserves.  This funding can be used to support their core operating costs.

Due to the Covid-19 crisis it is clear that a number of smaller community charity partners will struggle to deliver their vital services to the most vulnerable in society.  With immediate effect therefore the Foundation have taken the decision to suspend accepting applications from charities with a gross income in excess of £5M and to focus on helping smaller charities providing front line community services.

The Federation of Museums and Art Galleries of Wales – Covid-19 Resilience Grants

The Federation have secured £325,000 in funding to create a COVID-19 Resilience grant scheme for Welsh museums and heritage attractions.

Grants will be made available to independent heritage attractions and museums in Wales. These are small independent historic attractions that are themselves historic buildings or sites and Accredited or Working Towards Accreditation museums. The grants enable these organisations to survive this difficult period of closure and income loss.

The Barclays Foundation – COVID-19 Community Aid Package

Barclays have announced a new £100m package of funding, initially to provide a COVID-19 Community Aid Package to charities working to support vulnerable people impacted by COVID-19, and to alleviate the associated social and economic hardship caused by the crisis.

Funding support for clubs during COVID-19

Emergency funding of £400,000 for community sport in Wales has been announced by Welsh Government and Sport Wales.

Covid-19: Supporting Community Action Ceredigion

The Caring Communities Fast Track Fund will support new projects in Ceredigion that build community capacity and resilience to support communities to respond to the Covid-19 outbreak. The Scheme will consider funding 100% of project costs up to £1000.

The application form is to be completed with the support of a Community Connector or a CAVO Team member. Applications and supporting documentation to be submitted to teleri.davies@cavo.org.uk. Any supporting documents must be received before applications can be processed. CAVO will process applications within 2 weeks of receipt.

North Wales – Steve Morgan Foundation

£1m per week is being made available for 12 weeks to support charities in North Wales, Cheshire and Merseyside

It’s available for charities and not for profit companies within the remit area. It’s designed to help with the costs of additional emergency services to help people affected by the virus and to help charities experiencing a loss of fundraising revenue to stay operational.
